WebHaving read most if not all the books in the Shannara series, I tell people to skip the first eighty pages. Remember reading it in middle school and thinking "Oh I must have been impatient." Current day me agrees with past me- skip the first 80 pages or so and it's an ok out of ten. Brooks is definitely a lot more simpler than Gaiman.
